2-Minute Meal Planning BootCamp

“Plans are of little importance, but planning is essential.”
– Winston Churchill

MEAL PLANNING MINDSET
Thoughts > Emotions > Actions.
Motivation – should / have to VS desire = WANT TO

EXERCISE:
I want to do this because:___________________

KEY THOUGHTS:
I WANT to do this
Deciding ahead makes my life easier.
Deciding now will save me time and energy later.
I don’t have to do this perfectly.
Planning is essential. (if it’s good enough for Churchill + Eisenhower)

  • Just…WOW!!!!! This is amazing!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! You have really thought this through. It’s like you have been looking over my shoulder or standing in my kitchen. AND – it’s shareable?? Brilliant!

I remember when I started looking at my money daily/balancing my checkbook daily. It brought so much peace and calm. Takes two minutes and is like a spiritual practice. Makes so much sense that this will be the same – so I’m choosing to do this daily. : )

  • So you said you have been meal planning for years – so you were planning like a week or two out?? – and then switched to just the next day or day after. How do you do shopping with that? (Suppose you’ll get to that). I’ve been meal planning for years as well – found that I prefer to have a list of possible meals then decide the day before- or morning of. I’ve found it hard since my hubs and I have switched roles (I still do all the planning/shopping and he does the cooking). But it feels so heavy planning and shopping two weeks out. I’m finding it overwhelming…and heavy. And I’m someone who likes to cook and used to be an intuitive cook who didn’t use recipes. Looking forward to the other workshop about intuitive cooking. Feel like I’ve lost that.

  • I watched the recording of planning bootcamp. I was procrastinating instead of actually do my meal planning (haha), but it was a step in the right direction and I’m glad I did.

My best takeaway was in the beginning, about mindset.

“Try thinking of it like deciding, not planning. You have to decide anyway…might as well do it in advance when your head and stomach are in a better place!”

I also love the idea of planning daily rather than attempting a giant Tetris puzzle for the entire week

Curious – how was the ottolenghi simple project? I think about doing this all the time (since I heard about Julie & Julia) and his cookbook pictures look so amazing

    • Thanks for inspiring the bootcamp in the first place Scott!

Yes the mindset is super super important.

The Simple Project has been a long time in the execution – I haven’t followed the recipes as such but just used each recipe as an inspiration for a meal of my own. But it’s been fun. I’d recommend having it as a project and being willing for it to take a long time so it doesn’t feel pressuring.

  • I loved this Bootcamp Jules, thank you so much. It’s always fun to watch you coach us and I have been missing the monthly webinars 😉
I always feel excited when I plan my meals in advance & this has definitely served to boost my planning habit. The concept of doing the plan daily is genius (as my meal plans change often) and having a ‘running’ weekly plan suits me really well. I’m totally stoked to be trying this out – I’ve already made a start with my next 3 meals planned out & some lunch ideas thrown in 😃

    • Thanks for the feedback Nicola! I’m so glad you’re keen to play around,

Let me know how you find it – if something feels hard we can always work together to find a way around it.

    • Thanks for letting me know Valerie! And keep me posted with how you get on with the daily planning – If you have any problems happy to help work though it here.
