Intro Video
When I was growing up, I couldn’t wait to travel and see the world. My mum had travelled and lived in Canada and London and I loved hearing stories of her adventures.
I really thought I would end up living somewhere exotic like Paris or Barcelona or New York or Tuscany.
But you know the funny thing, as I traveled I kept looking for a place that I wanted to live more than Australia.
I didn’t find it.
And so I’ve ended up in my own little part of Australia only 70km from my Dad’s farm.
If you had told me this is where I would buy a house when I was 15 I would never have believed you.
But here I am.
Seriously, I live in the best country in the world. Especially when it comes to food.
So I’m super excited to delve into the melting pot that is Australian Cuisine…

Australian Ingredients
Writing this list was a bit of a challenge. While there are the native ‘bush food’ ingredients, I don’t use many of them in my cooking. So I’ve included ingredients that ‘feel’ Australian to me…
- vegemite!
- avocado
- hummus
- pesto
- curry pastes + powders
- olives
- ‘tasty’ cheese
- extra virgin olive oil
- fresh vegetables
- fresh herbs
- balmain bugs / moreton bay bugs (a salt water cray fish)
- oysters
- pink murray river salt flakes
- lemon myrtle – a native herb with a lemon / lime flavour
- finger limes – a long, finger-shaped citrus that is filled with clear coloured little caviar-like balls of limey goodness.
- lamb – I grew up on a sheep farm!
Instant ‘Aussie’: Add a big handful of undressed fresh herbs or baby spinach leaves.

I’m curious to know if there is one of these cookbooks you would recommend over the others. I would be most interested in one that has lower carb recipes. (By the way, I would love to live in Australia, these days; I’ve visited multiple places and have enjoyed all of them.)
You should move here Susan! It’s the best…
Tough to choose just one. Probably 3 Blue Ducks would be best for Low Carb.
