Apple & Nut Butter

Do you really need a recipe for this uber-simple and incredibly delicious snack?

Probably not.

BUT we had some friends staying earlier in the year and they hadn’t ever tried this sweet and salty flavour explosion combo so I made a mental note to write it up as a recipe.

For my boys their number one favourite is smooth peanut butter.

But I’m a fan of mixing it up with either almond butter, tahini or my home made macadamia butter.

Apple & Nut Butter

Total Time 5 minutes
Servings 2 people

Ingredients

  • 1 apple
  • 2-3 tablespoons nut butter

Instructions

  • Slice apple in half lengthwise. Then slice into quarters and cut out the seeds. Slice each quarter into 3 slivers. So you have 12 slices of apple in total.
  • Spread a little peanut butter on the end of each apple slice. Enjoy!

Variations & Substitutions

pantry-friendly – apples will keep in the fridge for months so it’s pretty much a pantry snack.

lower carb – use celery sticks instead of apple.

sweeter – sprinkle over some raisins or sultanas.

dairy-free – replace nut butter with tahini or cream cheese or ricotta and a drizzle of honey.

different fruit / vegetables – pears, celery, carrots are all great!

Waste Avoidance Strategy

apples – will keep for weeks (if not months) in the fridge.

Prepare Ahead

No. Unfortunately the apple will brown.
