alternate flavour ideas:

- raspberry ice cream – recipe on stonesoup
- tim tam ice cream – chop a couple of tim tams or other chocolate coated biscuits (cookies) and stir through vanilla ice cream base before freezing.
- creamy lemon ice cream – recipe on stonesoup
- custard ice cream
- lime ice cream – replace the lemon juice in the recipe here with lime juice.
- passionfruit ice cream – replace the lemon juice in the recipe here with passionfruit pulp – I like to leave the seeds in but it’s up to you!
- nougat ice cream – either buy your favourite nougat and stir through vanilla ice cream or frozen yoghurt.
- cherry garcia – puree fresh cherries and use instead of pomegranate juice in the pomegranate ice cream. Stir in chopped chocolate fudge & some glace cherries (if you’re into them)
- cardamom ice cream – remove the seeds from 5 cardamom pods and finely chop, crush in a mortar and pestle or grind them. Add to yoghurt base before freezing.
- chunky monkey – use the banana ice cream recipe & stir through chocolate fudge and chopped walnuts
- chocolate macadamia – make a batch each of vanilla and chocolate ice creams. freeze together as per the raspberry ripple instructions and serve showered with macadamia chunks and chocolate chips.
- black pepper ice cream – add 1 heaped tablespoon freshly ground black pepper to the vanilla or yoghurt ice cream base & freeze. Black pepper is also lovely in a strawberry sorbet.
- mango sorbet – peel 2 mangos and chop into chunks. Freeze then puree in a food processor with a little sugar. A squeeze of lime juice might be lovely.
- brown bread ice cream – tear 2 slices of stale brown bread into small chunks and stir through vanilla ice cream or frozen yoghurt before freezing. For the full Irish effect add a little Baileys Irish Cream and use Irish soda bread.
- caramel brown bread ice cream – as per the brown bread ice cream but use a caramel ice cream base.
- coconut ice cream – replace the yoghurt in the frozen yoghurt with canned coconut cream.
- mint slice ice cream – chop up a couple of mint slice biscuits (I think they’re only available in Australia) and stir into vanilla ice cream base before freezing.
- chocolate malt ice cream – add 4-6 tablespoons malted milk powder to the chocolate ice cream base.
- coffee ice cream – add a shot of espresso to the vanilla ice cream & freeze as per normal.
- affogato – the brilliant Italian dessert. Make a shot of espresso or a really strong coffee. Serve a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a glass and pour the coffee over at the table.
- hot chocolate affogato – for those who prefer chocolate to coffee. Use your own ice cream or store bought as per the recipe here.
- cinnamon ice cream – add 1/2 teaspoon (or more) ground cinnamon to the vanilla or yoghurt base and freeze.
- chocolate chip ice cream – cut your favourite chocolate into rough chunks and add to any of the ice cream bases before freezing
- honey ice cream – recipe on stoneoup
- flavoured frozen yoghurt – use your favourite flavoured yoghurt in place of natural yoghurt.
- creme brulee ice cream – make a custard using 3 egg yolks and 1/4 cup cream – stir over a low heat until the mixture thickens. Cool and add to vanilla ice cream base made with 1 cup cream and 150g (5oz) icing sugar. Freeze. Make caramel by following the pecan praline recipe but omiting the nuts. Smash caramel into chunks and serve ice cream with crushed caramel on top.
- eton mess ice cream – make raspberry ripple ice cream with frozen strawberries instead of the raspberries. serve generous scoops with crushed up chunks of pavlova or meringue.
- peanut butter crunch ice cream – serve the peanut butter ice cream with peanut praline made using the pecan praline recipe.
- cookies & cream ice cream – chop oreo cookies and mix into the vanilla ice cream base before freezing.
- bread & butter ice cream – tear a croissant or pan au chocolate into chunks. Add to the vanilla, caramel or yoghurt ice cream base before freezing.
- sticky cinnamon bun ice cream – tear a cinnamon bun into chunks and stir into the caramel ice cream before freezing. Serve scoops with a cinnamon stick as garnish.
